3.5.2.
Functional characteristics.
3.5.2.1. Power. Power for a UMS shall be supplied to the processor from a
20 Vdc regulated power supply. The processor shall supply operating power to
the transceiver. Reverse polarity connections to the processor shall not
damage the UMS. A UMS consisting of a processor and from one to 20
transceivers shall operate as specified herein on regulated dc voltage between
18 and 22 Vdc with a current drain not exceeding 110 milliamperes (mA).
3.5.2.1.1. Transmitter sound level output. For a UMS consisting of a
processor and a single transceiver, the on-axis sound pressure level at a
distance of one foot from the transmit transducer shall not be less than 100
decibels (dB) above reference sound pressure level (RSPL) of 0.0002 microbars.
The frequency of the signal shall be 26.300 ±0.005 kilohertz (kHz).
3.5.2.2. Performance. The UMS shall be sensitive to broadband ultrasonic
noise with frequency components within the passband of the UMS (25.3 to 27.3
kHz) that exceed the RSPL at the receive transducer by 65 dB. The UMS shall
be sensitive to the range of Doppler frequencies produced by unidirectional
motion of targets with radial velocities between 0.4 feet per second (fps) and
20 fps for specified minimum durations. The specified minimum durations are 1
second at a velocity of 0.4 fps decreasing exponentially to 0.3 second at a
velocity of 10 fps. For all velocities from 10 to 20 fps, the specified
minimum durations are 0.3 second. The UMS shall perform as specified in
3.5.2.2.1 through 3.5.2.2.4 under the conditions listed below:
a.
Number of transceivers connected to the processor: up to 20.
b.
Cable between the processor and each transceiver: up to 500 feet of
cable, RG-58/U or equivalent.
